MOTOROLA IS ANNOUNCING ITS FIRST
MOBILE WiMAX LAUNCHING ... VERY GOOD!!!
The largest WiMAX network in the
world is planned by Motorola and Pakistan?s Wateen Telecom.
One million subscribers are expected initially, with a
nationwide rollout to follow. The initial deployment is
schedule to be completed by the second half of 2006, the
company said.
The 802.16e-based MOTOwi4 WiMAX
access network and subscriber units will enable Wateen Telecom
to offer broadband data services covering residential and
corporate voice, VPN and public hotspots. Motorola, who will
plan, design and deploy the nationwide WiMAX network.
Integration with Motorola?s IMS solution will enable Wateen
Telecom to offer consumers voice services using VoIP (Voice-
over-IP) with features like caller ID, voice mail and call
forwarding. Motorola says they have demonstrated
interoperability of their Mobile WiMAX basestation (based on
802.16e) and Beceem's Mobile WiMAX PC cards.

fios no Brasil e no mundo
Comunicar-se a qualquer hora, em
qualquer lugar, com qualquer dispositivo. A tão sonhada
mobilidade total vem ganhando contornos cada vez mais reais
com o amadurecimento de tecnologias como Wi-Fi, WiMax e 3G em
todo o mundo.
No Brasil, limitações regulatórias e restrições financeiras
parecem conter a avalanche móvel, embora o País esteja dando
os primeiros passos rumo à era sem fio.
O uso de redes Wi-Fi – que permitem conectar equipamentos
sem fio em um raio de até 100 metros e com velocidade de até
54 Mbps (megabits por segundo) – tem crescido tanto nas
residências, com a redução nos preços dos equipamentos, quanto
nas empresas, apesar das preocupações com a segurança.

O que o povo vai querer em
futuro próximo? Alegria, minha gente ... Alegria! E
Alegria para o povo = a mobilidade, alta velocidade de
transmissão, voz, dados e entretenimento!
Então lá vai uma pergunta para você acionista de uma telco móvel:
Você em sã consciência compraria uma plataforma celular UMTS (3G)?
... Eu não compraria nem se perdesse a sanidade! O UMTS é muito
pobre para trazer a "alegria" para o povo. Por quê? O anseio de
conectividade de médio prazo estará norteado por conectividades de
alta velocidade (com tecnologias MIMO e OFDM) para suportar voz,
dados e entretenimento! Segundo o Wikipedia: "o
UMTS
suporta conexões de até 1,92 Mbps para transferência de dados (e
não de 2,0 Mbps como frequentemente é afirmado), embora até o
momento atual os usuários podem esperar uma performance de ? no
máximo ? 384 Kbps"
(sic)! Meu Deus, para que serve 384 Kbps de downlink para uma
realidade de Broadband on-the-go? Quer
perder seu dinheiro investidor? ... Comprar uma rede de UMTS
nestes ?tempos modernos e bicudos?! é, no mínimo, insensatez!
Como não podia deixar de ser, lá vai outra pergunta para você
acionista de uma telco móvel: Você em sã consciência compraria uma
plataforma celular HSDPA (3,5G)? ... Nunca eu diria ... aí mesmo é
que você pode esquecer! A não ser que a telco tenha um
planejamento de convergência mais elaborado aonde a rede HSDPA
serviria apenas para voz! Com a chegada do WiMAX Móvel e das
tecnologias de Convergência Fixo-Móvel (como a plataforma IMS, eu
esqueceria de vez o 3,5G da família GSM (o tal do HSDPA). Não faz
sentido continuar gastando dinheiro e subindo na escala da
ineficiente ? para transmissão de dados - tecnologia GSM! A
família GSM é boa para voz? É ótima! Mas para transmissão de dados
em alta velocidade? Forget it about! O anseio de
conectividade de médio prazo estará norteado por conectividades de
alta velocidade (com tecnologias MIMO e OFDM que vimos acima) para
suportar voz, dados e entretenimento! Segundo a matéria
Is HSDPA going to WiMAX? It is only a small
question!,
DEZ.2004, da Revista de WiMAX: Enquanto a velocidade de
transmissão teórica (ideal) de downlink do HSDPA é de 14 Mbps (e
abaixo de 4 Mbps na vida real), seu pico de uplink é de 384 Kbps,
que está muito longe da realidade! Veja também sobre isto no
Wikipedia aqui em
HSDPA.
Meu Deus, para que serve 384 Kbps de uplink para uma realidade de
Broadband on-the-go! Você tá maluco
acionista?. Quer perder seu dinheiro!. Comprar uma rede de HSDPA
(ou 3,5G, se preferir) nestes ?tempos modernos e bicudos é no
mínimo, insensatez! Não é a toa que o
3GPP
logo percebeu esta limitação e já está anunciando a família da
geração 3,75G que é o HSUPA, que provavelmente vai morrer de
"morte morrida" com a chegada do WiMAX Móvel!
Quem eu acho que "tá melhor nesta parada" é a Qualcomm (com 20%
apenas do mercado em relação a Família GSM do UMTS e HSDPA).
Por quê?
Por que está investindo em tecnologia moderna que incorpora o
framework de
OFDM
e
MIMO.
A Qualcomm terá outros problemas escala de mercado, algumas
dificuldades de parceria (por ser muito "fechada") e seu eterno

Vodafone, the world´s largest wireless service provider by revenue,
provides new insight into the carrier´s current assessment and
future direction for next generation wireless technologies. In a
talk at the April 20th IEEE East Bay ComSoc meeting, entitled, "Visions
from a Global Carrier´s Crystal Ball," Dr. Stanley Chia, Senior
Director of Vodafone´s US Research and Development Group, made
several observations about Mobile WiMAX and how it might be
positioned against 3G data technologies like HSDPA (WCDMA) and
EVDO (CDMA). The theme of the talk was how 3G might co-exist with
all the rapidly developing technologies (mobile WiMAX, mesh WiFi,
VoIP, mobile broadcast).

WiMAX and Fixed Wireless Trials Expanding in 2006
Emerging WiMAX and other fixed wireless technologies enable delivery
of a range of networking services ? such as Voice over IP, Internet
access, and private business network access ? over broadband
wireless connections. AT&T's new fixed wireless deployments, which
will be launched this summer in Pahrump, Nevada and Red Oak and
Midlothian, Texas, will extend the AT&T Yahoo! experience to
residential and business customers in these communities, and will
enable AT&T to further develop and refine WiMAX and other fixed
wireless technologies as potential solutions for delivering services
on a mass-market scale.
The new deployments expand AT&T's fixed wireless research
initiatives beyond its existing commercial trial deployments in
Alaska, Georgia and New Jersey. At the Detroit Economic Club keynote,
Whitacre announced that AT&T's WiMAX trials in the villages of Aniak
and Northway, Alaska, have already proven to be successful enough
that the company plans to offer services on an ongoing, commercial
basis in those communities. Broadband customers in these small
Alaska communities include residences, small businesses and
community centers.
In addition, AT&T in mid-April launched a limited service offering
of wireless broadband Internet access in the North Texas communities
of Frisco, McKinney, Prosper, Centennial, and Little Elm. This
service offer was launched in mid-April, with price points starting
at $39.95 per month. Customers in these service areas will have
direct access to the public Yahoo! portal, which will be set as
customers' default Internet home page.

technology streamlines the way we work and enhances the quality of
life we enjoy today ? and into the future," Whitacre said. "The new
AT&T looks forward to continuing to help our nation's businesses and
families prepare for better tomorrows.

O evento teve sua sexta edição nos dias 25 e 26 de maio no Rio de
Janeiro e apresentou aspectos relevantes para a inovação tecnológica
no mercado de telecomunicações e contou com um expressivo
comparecimento de todo o setor de telecomunicações.
Ao longo dos dois dias aconteceram diversas palestras de profissionais
e dirigentes do setor.
No primeiro dia foram apresentadas visões para integração de serviços,
independente das redes e a perspectivas de evolução da telefonia
celular no Brasil. Fabricantes mostraram suas novidades em aparelhos
para infra-estrutura. Como resultado pode-se esperar que as empresas
aumentem sua lucratividade com o atendimento às demandas do mercado
corporativo, bem como com a inclusão das classes D e E em seu target,
o que permite uma projeção como esta apresentada pelo Teleco.
O segundo dia seguiu com as apresentações a respeito das vantagens que
as tecnologias 3G apresentam e houve o questionamento quanto aos
motivos que fariam as operadoras adotarem o Wimax.
Para quê Wimax? A resposta apareceu após a apresentação do
projeto Piraí Digital, reconhecido nacionalmente e pela ONU. Tendo em
vista que grande parte do mais de 5.000 municípios brasileiros não
terão banda larga antes dos próximos 8 – 10 anos, uma forma possível
de propiciar a verdadeira “Inclusão Digital” nestas localidades é a
implantação de redes Wimax. Para tanto é necessário que seja
priorizada a concessão de parte do espectro de 3,5 a 5,8 Ghz para
iniciativas de Cidades Digitais. A Anatel está trabalhando neste
sentido antes de levar o espectro de 3,5 GHz a leilão.
Aspectos de responsabilidade social ficaram evidentes e geraram ampla
participação da platéia.
A “1ª Mostra de Inovação e Tecnologia” que aconteceu no mesmo período
contou com a participação de empresas como: Alvarion, Ericsson, Intel,
Motorola, Nokia, Qualcomm, Tim, e Vivo.

Análise Thesis: 6º Rio Wireless
"O 6º Rio Wireless, ocorrido a 25 e 26 de abril passado, se firmou
como ponto de referência no debate sobre BWA (broadband wireless
access) no país. Nos dois dias, o evento reuniu no Rio de Janeiro
alguns dos principais players do setor, no mundo, e movimentou o
debate em torno do padrão do WiMAX, da tecnologia Mesh, de questões
regulatórias e mercadológicas.
Os pontos altos do seminário internacional foram o debate sobre a
implantação da TV Digital no país; a apresentação do vice-presidente e
board-director do WiMAX Fórum, Mohammad Shakouri; e o debate em torno
da Cidade de Serviços. No primeiro caso, ficou demonstrado que o
consenso sobre o padrão da TV Digital ainda não existe. No segundo,
que o WiMAX é mais do que uma killer-application e significa um meio
seguro de se aumentar a renda dos serviços de dados em banda larga,
pela variadade e qualidade. E, no terceiro, de que as novas redes
eletrônicas a serviço das cidades podem ser implantadas sem apoio
governamental, a partir de um ecossistema inovador".(...)

mobilidade, por investimentos próprios numa infra-estrututura
pré-WiMAX, através de fornecedores do mercado (...)

Dublin - Companhia, que não faz parte do WiMax Forum, é criticada ao vender
sua primeira patente baseada em redes WiMax.
A Qualcomm assinou seu primeiro acordo de patentes para oferta de suas
tecnologias de redes sem fio WiMax.
O licenciamento – que envolve as tecnologias OFDM/OFDMA (Orthogonal
Frequency Division Multiplexing/Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex
Access) – foi feito para a Soma Networks, desenvolvedora de equipamentos
para redes sem fio.
O acordo não agradou empresas como a Alvarion, que atua no mercado de redes.
Segundo o vice-presidente de estratégias e marketing da companhia, Rudy
Leser, o licenciamento indica que a Qualcomm pretende criar uma nova
tecnologia baseada em suas patentes para competir com o WiMax, tal qual a
empresa fez com o desenvolvimento do padrão CDMA, que concorre com o GSM.
O WiMax, padrão desenvolvido nos últimos anos por diversas companhias, tem
sido apoiado fortemente pela Intel. O WiMax Forum, que reúne um grupo de
empresas especializadas em redes sem fio, tem procurado convencer seus
membros a abrirem patentes de tecnologias em torno do padrão para que o
custo final dos equipamentos caia.
A Qualcomm, que não faz parte do WiMax Fórum, preferiu não comentar as
declarações de Rudy Leser.
